New Delhi: Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation (SNU) has filed a formal complaint with Kalkaji Police Station, Delhi, and submitted a representation to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) member Priyank Kanoongo after Shobha Yadav, a 27-year-old single mother residing in the capital, approached the Foundation with allegations of identity concealment, fraudulent inducement into a live-in relationship, conversion pressure, physical assault, and theft of jewellery by her partner named Shahid Parvez, 46.
The Woman’s Account as Narrated to SNU
According to Shobha’s account narrated to Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation, she came into contact with the individual on Instagram in March 2023. The account was registered under the name “SK Yadav”, and the individual introduced himself as “Suresh”.
Shobha was a divorced woman and the sole caregiver of her then-three-year-old daughter. She was sustaining herself and her child by working as domestic cook in the CR Park area of Delhi at the time.

The two met in person approximately two months after initial contact. The individual told her he was unmarried, expressed a desire to marry her, and offered to provide a stable future for her and her daughter.
Relying on these representations, she entered into a relationship with him and moved into his residence at DDA Flats, Kalkaji, in 2024.
Approximately one year into the arrangement, Shobha says she discovered that the individual’s real name was Shahid Parvez and that he had concealed his identity from the outset. She confronted him, but he offered no answers.
She also learnt that Parvez was already married and had an eight-year-old son – facts that had not been disclosed to her despite repeated discussions about marriage and a shared future.
When she raised these matters with him, Parvez told her she had no option but to accept the situation or leave. She continued to reside at the address.
Parvez subsequently told her she would have to convert to Islam. According to Shobha, she initially refused. She says she was subjected to physical assault and sustained pressure following her refusal.
He brought two documents written in Urdu to the residence and asked her to sign them, saying they were conversion certificate and nikahnama. She signed them without being able to read their contents.
A rent agreement dated March 2025, reviewed by SNU, records Shobha’s name as “Sibra Parvez, wife of Shahid Parvez”.
In March 2026, Shobha learnt that Parvez also had an 18-year-old daughter – another fact he had withheld throughout.
On 9 June 2026, she discovered that Parvez had quietly vacated the shared residence at dawn. His personal belongings, including clothing, had been removed. His mobile phone was switched off, and he could not be contacted. Shobha’s gold jewellery – comprising a pair of earrings, a nose ring, a necklace, and a maang tikka – was also missing.
