When No One Came Forward, Sewa Nyaya Utthan Rehabilitated Woman Alleging Years of Abuse and Forced Conversion by Former MLA Ali Imran Ramz

New Delhi: Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation (SNU) has rehabilitated and is providing sustained humanitarian support to Priyanjali Neogi, who has levelled serious allegations of prolonged domestic abuse and forced conversion against her husband, Ali Imran Ramz, a former two-time Forward Bloc MLA from Chakulia and a Congress leader.

According to Priyanjali, the abuse began within months of their marriage in 2010 and continued for years. She has alleged that she was subjected to physical assault, mental cruelty, financial exploitation, coercive religious conversion, threats of a second nikah and intimidation.

Priyanjali, who is fighting five police and court cases against Ali, has alleged that she was assaulted during her first pregnancy for refusing to convert, resulting in a miscarriage.

She further said that the violence continued even after the birth of their two children, and that she was repeatedly pressured to arrange money for properties and other financial demands.

According to her, jewellery and money worth several lakhs were taken from her family, and she was later forced to sign documents under duress, resulting in the loss of her flat, money and jewellery.

In February 2026, Priyanjali addressed a press conference at the Kolkata Press Club, where she publicly narrated her allegations and released two videos that showed Ali Imran Ramz assaulting her.

The matter drew wider national attention in March when Priyanjali staged a protest outside the Congress office in New Delhi, demanding organisational action against Ali Imran Ramz. She also wrote to senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, seeking his suspension from the party, and appealed to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to intervene.

Despite the public attention generated by her press conference and protest, Priyanjali remained without any rehabilitation or institutional support.

It was at this stage that Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation stepped forward to assist her and her children.

As part of its rehabilitation efforts, SNU has:

  • Helped Priyanjali relocate to a safe place.
  • Secured admission for both her children in new schools, ensuring that their education continues uninterrupted.
  • Provided a monthly financial allowance to help her meet essential living expenses while she rebuilds her life and works towards financial independence.
  • Extended continuous humanitarian, emotional and logistical support during one of the most difficult periods of her life.

SNU believes that rehabilitation is an essential component of justice. Survivors of domestic violence and coercion often require far more than legal remedies – they need immediate safety, stable housing, education for their children and financial support to rebuild their lives with dignity.

Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation remains committed to supporting vulnerable individuals and families through rehabilitation, humanitarian assistance and access to justice, ensuring that those who seek help are not left to face their circumstances alone.
