𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗗

• Legally intervened for national policy change regarding the safety of app-based cab drivers after a series of incidents where passengers killed and looted drivers after booking a cab online. Moved NHRC with relevant data.

• Got an urgent probe initiated to trace a minor girl in Bihar who has been missing for three weeks. The aggrieved father had approached us through email.

• Legally pushed for adding the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act to a Lucknow case where an illegal conversion racket targeted childless couples promising them babies through prayers to a specific deity

• Trained over 100 schoolchildren in Jodhpur to defend themselves against street violence and assaults

We compiled a case file and moved the National Human Rights Commission for urgent policy action to protect app-based and taxi drivers, after Delhi cab driver was stabbed to death by the passengers who booked his ride last week. Vijay Kumar, 40, of Krishna Nagar, accepted a Rapido booking made under the name Ayan on the night of 23 July. Four men got in, stabbed him near Chitra Vihar, stole the cab and abandoned it near East Azad Nagar metro station. He died the same day, and three of the four accused – namely Mohd Ayan, Mohd Sahil and a 17-year-old – have been arrested. We placed a pattern of such app-booked driver killings before the Commission and asked for mandatory Aadhaar or government-identity-linked verification of passenger accounts, aggregator liability, and compensation for the bereaved family. We moved the National Human Rights Commission for urgent recovery of a minor girl missing from her home in Gopalganj since 11 July and untraced despite an FIR. On our complaint, the Commission took cognisance and issued notice to the Superintendent of Police, Gopalganj, and the Director General of Investigation. The girl’s family has named one, Junaid Ansari, and his father, Bismillah Ansari, of Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, as accused, and fears she was taken for forced marriage, sexual assault or trafficking. We legally intervened to add the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, against a conversion racket busted in Mohanlalganj, Lucknow, where a pastor and his wife ran the operation for years behind a multi-level marketing front. The racket drew in vulnerable villagers by promising that prayers to Jesus would cure their ailments, including infertility, and give childless couples a child. We submitted that trading a cure or a baby for conversion squarely violates the law against false miracle cures, which the police had left out. Over 100 schoolchildren at Small Wonder Secondary School on Pal Road, Jodhpur, went through a free self-defence and child-safety workshop we held on 28 July. Our trainers taught them to defend themselves in an emergency, stay alert around strangers, tell safe conduct from unsafe, and report anything wrong at once to a parent, teacher or trusted adult. We ran it to build their confidence, their awareness of their own safety, and their ability to stand on their own. The school called it useful and inspiring.
