Prem Bhil, a Pakistani Hindu refugee from the tribal Bhil community, has been fighting for his life after being diagnosed with cancer.

A native of Sanghar district in Sindh province, Pakistan, Prem fled to India in 2019 with his wife and son to escape religious persecution. The family eventually settled in Gangana village on the outskirts of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Over time, his family grew to include four children – one son and three daughters.

In Gangana, Prem found work at a local furniture factory, and for a while, life offered a semblance of stability. But his world changed when he developed a severe throat ailment. The illness forced him to quit his job, cutting off his only source of income. Subsequent medical tests confirmed it was cancer.

To cover treatment costs, his wife sold her jewellery. Prem spent nearly two months at Mathuradas Mathur Government Hospital in Jodhpur before being shifted to a private facility. While the hospital is providing free treatment, the medicines he needs remain prohibitively expensive.

When Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation learnt of Prem’s plight, a reporter/volunteer from the foundation visited him to assess his condition. Soon after, the foundation stepped in, providing a month’s ration and ₹5,000 in immediate financial assistance.

“This monetary help will allow me to purchase the medicines I urgently need, which otherwise seemed impossible,” Prem said, expressing heartfelt gratitude to Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation and its founders, Swati Goel Sharma and Sanjeev Newar, for their timely support.
