FIR Filed Against Instagram Operator Under Child Laws in Etah, UP
Following our intervention, Etah police in Uttar Pradesh filed an FIR against the operator of an Instagram account under child laws after the account was found uploading objectionable videos of children. The account was subsequently pulled down, and notices were issued to Meta India and the IT ministry. We had sent a detailed representation to @KanoongoPriyank regarding the account. Following the notices, Etah police filed the FIR under child laws. Meta India and the IT ministry were also issued notices to explain why such content was allowed. NHRC Notice to Kanpur Police Over Forced Conversion Allegations
We moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking protection for a family in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly subjected to pressure, inducements, intimidation, and harassment to renounce their religion, and threatened when they refused. Today, NHRC took cognisance, noting that the allegations prima facie seem to be violations of human rights, and directed the Commissioner of Police, Kanpur, to get them inquired into and submit an Action Taken Report within two weeks.
Student Safety Training at People’s University, Bhopal
Under our ongoing program to train college students about these crimes, we held another session at People’s University in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, today. The session covered anti-ragging laws, the POSH Act, grooming and coercion, consent, and student rights. The program is being executed along with our legal arm, @networkforjus.
